Why I am trying to eat Australian bush foods every day

Life is just one big experiment isn’t it? I guess this is the latest chapter of my experiment…

I was talking to a friend the other day about my current excitement (obsession?) about eating Australian foods every day. He’s asked me what my goal is? What I’m trying to achieve…

I feel like there’s a bit of a backstory to my explanation.

Integrated

The things I understand so far about indigenous culture, spirituality, healing all give me the impression that many indigenous cultures are quite integrated. By that I mean it doesn’t look like there is a separate doctor and a separate food philosophy and a separate ritual & spirituality philosophy. Generally it seems that indigenous cultures are integrated and what you eat is part of your healing, what you do in your day today is part of your ritual and so on.

Wisdom in the land

I also hear repeatedly that the wisdom of the country is in the landscape and the land itself. For a long time I thought I wasn’t eligible to connect with authentic Australian traditions and culture because my family heritage is not indigenous Australian. More and more lately I have been going for bushwalks and long periods of camping where I finally have a sense of feeling at home, and in my place. I think I’m starting to experience a sense of place and culture that is inherent in the land.

Wisdom in the land

Imbibe

Imbibe

I have a hunch that if I eat more Australian foods on a regular basis, this will enhance my ability to tap into the natural wisdom inherent in the land. So I’m eager to imbibe Australian plants in any way I can and my goal is to get more deeply connected to the wisdom that resides in this land.

How often do you eat Australian plants?
